Shottesbrooke was built from the ground up on a legacy of hard work and dedication. Shottesbrooke continues to be a testament to the people, place and soul forged over many years. Today, our wines are distributed all around the globe. It’s in every bottle.
It all started
Shottesbrooke began its journey in 1981 when Nick Holmes, the founder, planted his first vineyard outside Myponga, a small South Australian town. His passion for making McLaren Vale wines was sparked by the high-quality fruit produced by these vines. Nick was humbled by his beginnings and eventually purchased McLaren Flat. Here he built the Shottesbrooke cellar door and winery. This is where he started the journey to create the finest McLaren Vale wines. Shottesbrooke, Nick’s stepson and now winemaker/general manager Hamish Maguire continue to produce high-quality wines from their estate-owned vineyards. These vineyards are located in the premier wine-growing areas of McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and are known for producing some of Australia’s finest Shiraz, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chief Winemaker
HamishMaguire is Shottesbrooke Vineyard’s General Manager and Chief Winemaker. His goal is to continue Nick Holmes’s legacy, Shottesbrooke’s founder. Hamish grew up in McLaren Vale’s vineyards and was a trainee winemaker at Ryecroft Wines as a teenager. Hamish was admitted to Adelaide University in 1993. He graduated with a degree in Science and Business.
After completing his University studies, Hamish was offered the chance to work at Ryecroft for a full vintage. Here he learned about the inner workings and secrets of wineries. The following vintage, he worked for Shottesbrooke, his family’s winery. Hamish left home in 1998 to travel the world. He spent three years living in France and Spain.
Hamish oversees the winemaking of the Shottesbrooke label. He also manages several independent brands. Hamish devotes much of his time to the international promotion of the Shottesbrooke brand, including in Asia, Canada, the USA and Europe. Hamish has overseen the Shottesbrooke wine label’s growth and evolution while maintaining the highest quality wines.
