1. Mindful Consumption
It went beyond just drinking. Mindful consumption also covers everything we consume in our daily lives. The consumption of media, especially social media, and positive community (or the people and things we surround ourselves with) are two examples.
Cathy shared some tips for mindful consumption. She mentioned the “60 Second Pause” previously. The new norm for arranging meetings in person includes outdoor dining and walking meetings that combine the benefits of exercise with fresh air.
2. The Influence of Culture on Wellbeing
How does our environment affect our wellbeing? It can have a huge impact on our well-being.
Mindful consumption is a key component of wellbeing. This includes financial wellness, emotional wellbeing, safety, and, ultimately, a sense of belonging.
Although mindful consumption can be controlled and directed at an individual level, it is not possible to control the environment in which we work. Your feedback has highlighted the need for employers and our industry to create a culture of wellbeing as we return to work in the post-COVID world.
Also, all the progress we have made at home must be taken at work.
Through COVID, community and support systems are essential. We heard in the focus group that people want to feel part of something more than ever. We want to feel safe and included in every aspect of our work life.
This means that flexibility is prioritized for employees, accommodations for working families, especially working mothers, and ways to connect informally and find common ground.
People have also changed their drinking habits through COVID. We need to reexamine our outdated attitudes about drinking at work. It should be acceptable to drink less or none at all.
Leadership and culture are interconnected. We heard you again calling for concrete ACTION. We heard your ideas and shared them loudly.
3. Industry Leader
COVID has blurred lines between professional and personal lives. It has brought out and magnified the pain points and struggles already there.
Many of you want to be leaders, especially in the face of pay inequity and lack of flexibility for working parents,
If you’re a leader or have the opportunity to be a leader, now is the time to show your care for your employees beyond their contribution to your company’s success.
These are some practical ways to model behaviour that puts wellbeing first:
- Put your workout on your work calendar like any other meeting.
- The financial investment to pay equity and financial security
- More opportunities for women to be leaders
- Flexibility to meet changing workforce needs is possible by finding ways to increase flexibility
Final, prioritize health programs for employees and evaluate and create programs centred around drinking or tasting to increase inclusiveness for ALL.
We are grateful to Stevie Kim, the wine2wine staff and Stevie Kim for bringing this topic up on the agenda. Vinitaly, under Stevie’s leadership, has been a catalyst for the creation of a diverse, inclusive, healthier and more productive wine workforce. We are grateful for this opportunity.
